How It All Started

The Mash Pit didn’t come out of nowhere — it grew out of a whole lot of creativity, community, and a little bit of chaos (the good kind).

Back in November 2006, Zoey’s Attic was born when I was a brand-new mom looking for something that didn’t seem to exist yet: fun, clever, out-of-the-ordinary apparel for families celebrating big moments. After welcoming our first daughter, Bridget, I searched high and low for unique baby and big-sibling shirts and kept coming up empty. So I did what any designer would do — I made them myself.

beach-zoeys.jpgUsing my background in graphic design and web development, I launched Zoey’s Attic as a small online shop focused on pregnancy announcements, baby milestones, and big brother/big sister tees. We sold our first shirt just two days after launch, and from there, things took off fast.

What started in our basement eventually grew into a full operation with a retail location in Webster Groves and a warehouse in Kirkwood — fueled by customer support, word of mouth, and a whole lot of late nights.

From Zoey’s Attic to The Mash Pit

As the years went on, so did the ideas.

What began as family-focused apparel naturally expanded into custom shirts, hats, patches, parties, school spirit wear, events, and hands-on experiences. The Mash Pit was born as the place where creativity gets loud — where ideas collide, people gather, and custom goods come to life in real time.

Today, The Mash Pit is all about making things together — whether that’s at a Pit Party, a school event, a team fundraiser, or right here in our shop. It’s messy, energetic, collaborative, and unapologetically fun.

The Meaning Behind the Name

And yes — people still ask: Who is Zoey?

Zoey was a stuffed zebra, gifted to Bridget by my mom when she was born. That little zebra became a favorite toy and the perfect symbol of three generations coming together. The “attic” part? Because everyone knows the best treasures are often the unexpected ones you find tucked away.

That spirit never left — it just evolved.

Why We Do What We Do

Inspiration still comes from family, friends, our community, and watching life unfold in all its stages. We believe the moments worth celebrating deserve something personal, creative, and made with care.

The Mash Pit exists to bring people together, spark ideas, and turn memories into something you can wear, hold, or take home — preferably with a smile and maybe a little ink on your hands.

Welcome to the pit.
